I’m going to be honest if it had not been for work, I probably would never have put Louisville on my list of travel destinations. Louisville is known for 3 things: Kentucky Derby, Louisville Slugger (Major League baseball bats), and Bourbon. For me, the stand out in Louisville was all the amazing food. I have been a lot of places but none of them fit the mark as often as Louisville. This Instagram guide should inspire you and keep you busy with all the local favorites:
1. It’s pronounced neon sign:
Nothing says i’m in Louisville like this neon sign that has all its many pronunciations. You can find this beauty at Louisville’s Visitors Center located at 301 S 4th St, Louisville, KY 40202 .
2. The Bourbon District
Like I said Louisville is known for its Bourbon! Head down to the Bourbon District for a ton of instagrammable photo opportunities. We even went to the Even Williams Bourbon tasting! 528 W Main St, Louisville, KY 40202
3. Big Four Bridge
The big four bridge is a bridge that crosses the Ohio River. It took its name from the defunct Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago and St. Louis Railway, which was nicknamed the “Big Four Railroad”. It is now a converted pedestrian and bicycle bridge connecting Louisville, Kentucky, and Jeffersonville, Indiana. I have a thing for bridges and this one was a beauty!
4. Hubard’s Orchard and Winery
Technically Huberts is in Indiana but it is worth the drive. It was pumpkin season and advertisements for Huberts orchard and winery were everywhere. We actually went to both the orchard and the winery. The wine tasting was fun and the fresh air was needed. I took this pic on the cool miniature farm playground. 9816 Huber Rd, Borden, IN 47106
5. Greetings from Louisville
I’m a self-proclaimed mural hunter. I always search for the greetings tour murals. They scream I’m in (insert city) and are super cute for the gram.
1101 Central Ave, Louisville, KY 40208
6. Herigold Facade
I wasn’t able to get a good shot of the facade due to lighting constraints but trust me it has great Instagram potential. The facade has a rich history it’s one of the surviving historical landmarks from the great Ohio River flood of 1937.
32-402 Frankfort Ave, Louisville, KY 40206
7. Harrods Creek Park
Harrods creek park is a short 2.5 mile hiking trail. We went there chasing an elusive water fall that we never found.. however it was still a beautiful hike.
8. Falls of Ohio State Park
The Falls of Ohio State Park is a cool place to check out there a great view of the Ohio river dam , fossil hunting , and promenade. However warning! depending on the time of year none of this things are available. As the water rises lots of the activities are no longer available . This was the case when we visited in October.
9. Sapporo Japanese
Now we enter the food phase of this guide! While all the food we had in Louisville was delicious! Sapporo was a total surprise. They had no official instagram page but the reviews were good so we gave it a shot. When the Uber dropped us off he noticed our destination and said we were in for a treat and he wasn’t lying. The wait was ridiculous over an hour but definitely worth it everything about our meal was amazing. The above flaming sushi was what solidified its instagramability.
10. Royals Hot Chicken
Neon Lights, Murals, and fried chicken! Ding, Ding, Ding! We have a winner.
11. Please and Thank You
You don’t have to search very hard among Louisville foodies to come up with the name please and thank you… They claim to have Louisvilles best chocolate chip cookie! …. Although i haven’t had all Louisville’s cookies Id definitely place my bets on this one. It was soft, moist, and flavor filled. The sign makes for a great instagram moment and the interior of the locations I went to were equally as cool.
12. Super Chef
The restaurant has a super hero theme! The chef was on Guys Grocery games. The food was really good and 1000% instagrammable.
702 Bardstown Rd, Louisville, KY 40205
13. Harvest
I have 2 words for you, PEACH PUREE! The peach puree on the french toast was to die for!
624 E Market St, Louisville, KY 40202
14. Havana Rumba
The first place my friend from Louisville recommended we eat was Havana Rumba. It was so good we ate there twice! They have live music and great food.
